OB Fellowship at Hoboken University Medical Center
The Obstetrical Fellowship is 12 months in duration and is a collaboration between the
Department of Family Medicine (New York Medical College) and the Department of OB/GYN.
The fellowship program is located in Hoboken, New Jersey, a vibrant community located on the
banks of the Hudson River with close proximity to New York City. Hoboken University Medical
Center is a community hospital that services a diverse patient population reflective of the New
York Metro area. The fellowship program is unopposed, and its primary purpose is to enhance
the family practitioner’s skill set in the management of laboring patient, with a strong emphasis
on normal vaginal delivery and operative delivery. The OB fellow functions as a mentor to both
Family Medicine residents and medical students while in the Labor and Delivery Unit.
Objectives
- Learn antepartum intrapartum and postpartum care
- Learn obstetrical triage
- Learn vaginal delivery, cesarean delivery, operative vaginal delivery-vacuum extraction
- Learn the management of labor and delivery unit
- Learn management of induction of labor, spontaneous labor, pre–term labor, PPROM and shoulder dystocia
- Diagnose and manage high–risk pregnancies gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, eclampsia, placenta previa etc.
- Learn antenatal testing biophysical profile nonstress test
- Learn techniques for routine ultrasound
Curriculum
- 12 months of Labor and Delivery
- One-half day prenatal clinic for 12 months
- 4 weeks of Maternal-Fetal Medicine
- 2 weeks of Ultrasound
Call Requirement
- Approximately 8 calls per month
Fellow Case Numbers
- Approximately 200 operative deliveries
- 200 vaginal deliveries
Faculty
Requirements
- Completed a Family Medicine Residency in good standing and be board-eligible or board-
certified - New Jersey medical license and DEA before July 1st of fellowship

- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider Status
- Current Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) Provider Status
- BLS/ACLS Provider Status
- Procedure log including number of deliveries performed and mode of delivery
- Three letters of recommendation. One letter must be from Program Director or Department Chair
All materials must be received before an interview can be granted.
Application Timeline and Dates to Note
- May 1st – date for submission of application
- September 1st – closing date for receipt of fellowship application
- Interviews will take place between September 15th and September 30th
