CarePoint Health honored Dr. Hemant Shad with a dedication of a Hoboken auditorium and community center on Wednesday, officials said.

Shah, a distinguished family practice physician and philanthropist who previously received a proclamation from the City of Hoboken, has served as the health commissioner of the City of Jersey City and has held numerous leadership and board positions across Hudson County hospitals.

“Dr. Shah’s enduring legacy and the profound impact he has made on our community and the world are truly commendable,” CarePoint President and CEO Dr. Achintya Moulick said in a statement.

“The idea to provide funding to make this a newly modernized space came from Dr. Shah himself and CarePoint is grateful for his proactive kindness. It is our privilege to honor him with the dedication of this community center.”

Shah, who immigrated from India, has played an integral role in Hoboken, supporting a wide range of charitable causes both locally and globally.

His philanthropic efforts include temple restorations and the establishment of a non-profit school in India. Dr. Shah serves as an Attending Physician at CarePoint Health System’s Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital.

“Once you’ve made it in your career and you have done what you want to accomplish, giving back is such a simple way to pay it forward to future generations,” said Dr. Shah of his motivation to modernize the community room.

“I hope to inspire my children, who are here with me today, and others to do the same because when we help each other we heal the world.”

In attendance at the event were CarePoint Health Executives Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Rimmer, Chief of Staff and Vice President of Marketing, Strategy and Patient Experience Justin Drew, HUMC Chief Hospital Executive Nadir Ijaz, Chief Supply Chain Officer Jonathan Goldstein, Chief Financial Officer Shamiq Syed, Christ Hospital Chief Hospital Executive Marie Duffy along with other physicians and support staff.

Also present were Hoboken Business Alliance Executive Director Roxanne Earley, President of the Board of Trustees for the Hoboken Business Alliance James Runkle and Director of Community and Donor Relations for St. Joseph School for the Blind Migdalia Viole.

Councilman-at-Large Joe Quintero stood in for Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla and presented Shah with a proclamation on behalf of the city, honoring his many contributions.

The room is in use already for community needs that include pre-natal classes for expectant mothers, the New Mothers Supprort Group which meets weekly, American Red Cross blood drive events, the Good Dog Foundation events, among many others.
