Classes and Events

Classes available for CarePoint Health patients range from Lamaze and childbirth options to new mom support groups and more. See ways to foster a healthy pregnancy and confident parenting.

Classes are offered to those planning to give birth at CarePoint Health. For more information on classes, events, a tour or more information about our Pampered Pregnancy Program, call us at 201.821.8819.

Childbirth Preparation Series

This class is offered once a week over a 4-week time span in two-hour increments. The class provides in-depth, detailed information covering the following areas:

  • Lamaze childbirth techniques (breathing, relaxation and massage)
  • The different types of childbirth options available
  • How to become more confident about labor, childbirth, breastfeeding and newborn care
  • Making informed decisions about labor, childbirth, breastfeeding and newborn care
  • What the processes are within a hospital setting
  • When and how to get support
  • Pain management

This class is ideal for first-time parents who are available weeknights between 6:30–8:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided as well as a tour of the maternity unit following the third class of the series.

Childbirth Preparation Workshop

This class is offered as a one-time workshop. The class covers the following:

  • Lamaze childbirth techniques (breathing, relaxation and massage)
  • Making informed decisions about labor, childbirth, breastfeeding and newborn care
  • What the processes are within a hospital setting
  • When and how to get support
  • Pain management

This class is ideal for parents who have already taken a childbirth preparation class and are looking for a refresher course. First-time parents are encouraged to take the Childbirth Preparation Series.

Prenatal Nutrition

Please join us for a Prenatal Nutrition Class with our registered dietitian, who has over 9 years of experience working with expecting moms. She will be discussing:

  • General nutrition guidelines for pregnancy
  • Important nutrients that you and your baby need
  • Weight gain during pregnancy
  • Foods to avoid
  • Physical activity during pregnancy
  • Nutrition while breastfeeding
  • Postpartum weight loss

She will also be giving a brief presentation on gestational diabetes. We encourage both parents to attend.

Prenatal Breastfeeding Class

This is a one-session class for expectant parents. We cover the most important breastfeeding techniques, how to prevent and identify problems, pumping and milk storage, and many more topics of interest to the group. Couples are encouraged to come together. The Prenatal Breastfeeding Class is a two- to three-hour-long class.

Newborn Care Class

This is a one-session class for expectant parents. We cover topics such as:

  • Newborn Senses
  • General Care
  • Holding & Burping
  • Tummy Time
  • Baby’s Temperature
  • Diapering & Changing
  • Umbilical Cord care
  • Circumcision Care
  • Daily Hygiene
  • Bathing & Care
  • Growth & Development
  • Baby Basics (first three months)

Couples are encouraged to come together. The Newborn Care Class is a two- to three- hour-long class.

Newborn Safety Class

This is a one-session class for expectant parents. We cover topics such as:

  • Getting Your Home Ready
  • Keeping Your Baby Safe
  • Feeding Choices
  • Colicky Baby
  • Soothing Your Baby
  • Back to Sleep
  • SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)
  • Shaken Baby Syndrome
  • Baby’s Warning Signs
  • Car Seat Guidelines
  • Finding a Pediatrician
  • Immunizations
  • Infant CPR (under one year of age)
  • Infant choking (under one year of age)

Couples are encouraged to come together. The Newborn Safety Class is a two- to three-hour-long class. In addition, it is highly recommended to register yourselves and your baby’s caregiver for the Infant CPR class.

Infant CPR Class

The purpose of this course is to teach you how to perform CPR on an infant who is younger than one year. It is based on the American Heart Association’s curriculum for its Friends and Family CPR class. Couples are encouraged to come together as well as to register your baby’s caregiver for this class.

Please note: We advise that women do not take this Infant CPR Class late in their pregnancy because of the strenuous breathing exercises that are required in learning techniques. Infant CPR Class is a two- to three-hour-long single class.

Daddy Training Camp

Becoming a new dad can be one of the most rewarding, yet overwhelming experiences in one’s life. This class is designed to address the roles a new dad will encounter. Discussions and demonstrations will address:

  • Bonding with your new baby
  • Balancing your career and your role as a new parent
  • Ensuring a solid relationship with your partner
  • Creating a strong support system for the new mom

This class is open to dads-to-be as well newcomers to the field. This setting is a chance for every dad to share their experiences, and advice.
