At Christ Hospital and Hoboken University Medical Center, our newborn nurseries are first rate! Our hospitals use a team of highly skilled and compassionate professionals who are dedicated to providing infants with state-of-the-art, family-centered care.
We are very proud to provide our new families with mother/baby couplet care, which offers many physical and emotional benefits to both babies and mothers. Couplet care allows you to grow more comfortable with your baby’s needs by the time you go home together, and helps make you more confident in your ability to care for your baby.
Our staff are trained to care for moms and their babies together, and our well-baby holding nurseries provide all necessary newborn assessments. Our facilities are designed to encourage parent-newborn bonding, and include all private rooms. Our staff of neonatologists, pediatricians, and nurses is sensitive to the care and concerns of the babies and their families.
Hoboken University Medical Center also has a Special Care Nursery available for our newborns who need additional support as they transition to their new life, including moderately premature babies or younger preemies preparing for transport to a Level 3 NICU. Our special care nursery has staff, physicians and neonatologists who are trained to provide this level of care, as well as all of the equipment and supplies necessary to take care of our “littlest” patients.
Our special care nursery can care for babies born after 32 weeks gestational age who:
- Can't stay warm on their own and need to be placed under a warmer
- Aren't strong enough to eat well and need support and assistance
- Have mild health problems related to prematurity, such as jaundice or apnea of prematurity
- Are recoving after having spent time in a Level III NICU
